EventScotland, the government-funded body that supports events in Scotland, has celebrated ten years of existence with the publication of a document that looks back at its achievements and plans for the future. The publication, entitled EventScotland: Celebrating 10 Years, discusses the huge extent to which the Scottish events industry has changed over the past decade.
Event production in Scotland has been given a major boost by the organisation, which has invested over £30 million in Scottish events since 2003. 2014 is an especially big year for the Scottish events industry, with both the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games coming to the country.
EventScotland sets out its 2020 vision for Scotland’s events industry, hoping to build on the foundations that its first ten years were able to establish. They hope to develop some of Scotland’s many positive attributes, such as its cultural identity, heritage, natural environment, event facilities and signature events (including Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and various festivals).
The document, available to read in pdf form, celebrates the many highlights of the past ten years. Scotland has hosted huge events such as the 2005 Heineken Cup Final and the 2009 MOBO Awards. The country’s event industry has a few busy years coming up, with major international events including the World Gymnastics Championships and the MTV EMAs.
